Why SAFE Speeds Zones Was Created
Road safety is a shared responsibility. Every day, children walk to school, older adults cross busy streets, cyclists share the road, and road workers maintain the infrastructure we all rely on. These everyday activities should be safe, but they depend on drivers making responsible decisions.
SAFE Speeds Zones was created to increase awareness of the important role every driver plays in protecting others. Rather than focusing on enforcement alone, the campaign encourages positive driving behaviours that help create safer communities for everyone. SAFE Speeds Zones focuses on three areas where extra care behind the wheel can make a significant difference.
Supporting Municipalities Across Ontario
SAFE Speeds Zones has been designed to support municipalities in delivering consistent, high-quality road safety education. Through the Municipal Toolkit, local governments can access professionally developed campaign resources, including posters, videos, social media graphics, messaging, and communication materials that can be adapted for use within their own communities.
By working together, municipalities across Ontario can reinforce a shared message and encourage safer driving behaviours where they matter most.
